Intro
This month’s Student of the Month is Kilgore High School senior Kayson Brooks. Brooks stands out for his determination, positive attitude, and consistent commitment to excellence. His leadership and kindness make a noticeable impact on our school community every day.
Who Is Brooks?
Brooks is a senior at KHS who plays both football and basketball and is an active member of the Kilgore High School Student Council. Some of the biggest reasons he was chosen as Student of the Month are his leadership, endless kindness, and determination.
“My biggest challenge is trying to balance sports and academics,” Brooks said.
Throughout his time at KHS, Brooks has had many role models, but the two who have influenced him the most are his dad and his former teacher, Mrs. Brittany Cleveland. Brooks believes his father is the true example of what a good role model should be.
“My dad is the embodiment of a good role model and taught me how to be a good man, not just by words but with actions,” Brooks said.
Mrs. Brittany Cleveland has also played a big part in his life.
“Mrs. Brittany Cleveland has shown me kindness while caring about me as a person, and she has helped me walk on my path with Christ,” Brooks said.
School
Although Brooks has accomplished many things in his four years at KHS , three things that really stand out are his All State Football accomplishment, all district in baseball and basketball , and last but not least his holding every passing record in football .
“Something that makes me proud is being able to attend STATE in football for two years in a row,” Brooks said.
Home Life
Outside the classroom, Brooks brings the same positivity and determination to his home life. Whether he’s helping family and friends, staying on top of his responsibilities, or unwinding on 2K and Madden with his best friends seniors Kolton Hale and Dre’ Sanders, he always finds a way to stay grounded.
“They are good friends and never fail to make me smile and make my day better,” Brooks said.
On top of that, he stays busy traveling for AAU basketball; something he loves not only because of the game, but because of all the new friends he’s made while doing what he loves.
After School Plans
After high school, Brooks plans to attend Midwestern State University located in Wichita Falls, Texas and is a public liberal arts university that mainly focuses on strong nursing and health programs along with not having a large student body they offer bachelor and masters degree.
“I get to continue playing football while getting a top‑tier education,” he said.
While at Midwestern State, he plans to major in electrical engineering or computer science.
“They don’t offer computer engineering, but these majors will help me get on the right track,” Brooks explained.
One class he knows he’ll miss the most is StuCo.
“I’ll miss Student Council class the most because I enjoy myself not just sitting there doing book work, but getting to help out with my community and having good laughs with my friend senior Dre’ Sanders.” Brooks said
