Algebra teacher Madison Jones is February’s Teacher of the Month.

“I think I have a good rapport with my students,” Jones said. “I love my content, so I have fun teaching it.”

Jones was an assistant coach for the Girls’ Soccer team along with Financial Aid teacher Daniel Garcia last year. The two of them coached the girls to the third round of playoffs.

“The Girls’ Soccer program was the most fun experience I have had in Kilgore ISD,” Jones said. “I loved coaching the girls and coaching with Coach Garcia. It was such a fun and competitive atmosphere.”

This school year is Jones’ second year teaching at KHS.

“Mrs. (Masie) Tolar, Mrs. (Sherri) Hunter, and Coach Garcia have had the biggest impact on me,” Jones said. “They are three of my closest friends in Kilgore, and always support and listen to me! I love going to KHS sports games when I can. I love supporting my students and being a part of the Kilgore community.”

From kindergarten to senior year, Jones attended school in a small ranching town right below Lake Tahoe in California. She grew up on a beef cattle ranch, and she played Varsity Soccer, Basketball and Track all four years of high school.

“I went to State for the 400 M., 4 X 200 M. and 4 X 400 M. during my four years,” Jones said. “My most memorable moment of my high school experience was going to State and breaking the 4 X 200 M. relay record my freshman year.”

During high school, Jones was on Honor Roll all eight semesters and graduated with a 4.5 GPA.

“AP Statistics my senior year was the class that taught me the most,” Jones said. “My teacher was amazing and connected every part of the math to our real life. Statistics is one of the most applicable classes I’ve ever taken.”

Jones attended Dallas Baptist University and majored in secondary mathematics education. She also played soccer for three years, and her sophomore year, Jones and her team went to the Final Four of the NCAA Division Two Tournament.

“My favorite thing about going to the Final Four was the experience.” Jones said. “We traveled to Colorado Springs, and we got to tour the Air Force Base and meet the Air Force Baseball team. I got to play soccer with some of my best friends in the whole world, and experience something that most college athletes never experience. It was something I will never forget.”

Jones’ family consists of her husband, her son and four dogs.

“My biggest accomplishment in my life has been becoming a mom,” Jones said. “It has been my biggest dream come true and I love every second of it. My best friend is my husband. I truly found the funniest and most kind person who makes every single day fun. While also being serious. I love my fur babies”

Jones’ parents have a huge impact on her.

“If I got to sit down with one person and talk with them, I would pick my dad who passed away five years ago,” Jones said. “I would update him on my whole life and show him who I married and his first grandson. The most influential person in my life is my mom. She shaped me into the woman, teacher and mom that I am today. As an adult, she is my best friend and biggest cheerleader.”

A quote Jones lives by is Corinthians 16:14.

“Let all that you do be done in love,” Jones said. “I try my hardest to have all of my actions be loving because God did the most loving thing imaginable when He sent Jesus to die for us.”
