Released on April 4 the “Minecraft Movie” has earned more than $163 million on its opening weekend and $313 million globally. The movie has had the best opening for a video game movie beating the likes of The Mario movie, another video game adapted film featuring Jack Black, by nearly a whopping 20 million. Due to the movie trending on social media the movie only grew more popular, with posts like “top Minecraft movie phrase list” making the movie well hyped. In addition, not only is Minecraft the worlds best selling game, according to genius world records, but it’s one of the most well known. Minecraft is a game that most people know these days, many teens and oncoming generations have either played or watched people play it before. The movie even incorporates household names like Jack Black,a well versed Minecraft player, and Jason Momoa.
The movie has even spread its hands with make up toys and an in game event. The most notable partnership Minecraft has done is Mcdonalds’ Minecraft Movie Meal. The Minecraft Movie Meal, featuring collectibles inspired by the game and Mcdonalds characters which includes, Zombie Hamburglar, Grimace Egg, Birdie Wings, Fry Helmet, Soda Potion, and the Big Mac Crystal.
This collaboration, along with the movie’s success, is expected to further boost the Minecraft franchise by increasing and attracting new players. The success of the movie is also seen as a positive sign for the film industry, which had been experiencing a slow period. The movie was such a success that director Jared Hess is already talking about sequels.
