Senior captain prepares for her last year of soccer

For so many years long before high school, she has got cuts, bruised herself, got concussions, and even cleated one too many times. All of it was because of her love for soccer.

“I’ve been playing soccer since I was three so this year makes it 15 years that I have been playing soccer,” senior Kylie Nichols said. “I absolutely love it,”

Four years of her hard work and dedication to the sport of soccer has finally paid off. Kylie Nichols has been chosen to be one of this years senior captains.

“Captain is just a title,” Kylie said. “I’m out there having fun just like anyone else enjoying my favorite sport with my teamates.”

In practice, the girls have been doing team bonding to get to know each other as a team as they come into the new soccer season.

“We have talked a lot about how we could have better understanding with the rest of our team,” Kylie said. “We have been doing a lot of team bonding. Growing a bond with them is best so everyone is comfortable with one another and we can all know each other in the best positive way.”

Kylie is a competitive person. She loves getting out on the field and competing while playing her favorite sport. Sadly this is end of Kylie’s soccer carrer as she graduates and begins her life as a young adult.

“The competition and the adrenaline rush I get when playing a rival team knowing we won’t step off that field till we have walked away with our win,” Kylie said. “Sadly this year will be the end of my soccer journey. It’s been great while it lasted but every chapter has to come to an end eventually.”

Every athlete has a reason to play a sport, or they have someone they are doing it for. In Kylie’s case, her dad is the reason she began playing and her little brother is her inspiration to continue playing.

“My inspiration that had me begin soccer was definitely my dad,” Kylie said. “He always pushed me to be the best that I can be. My little brother is definitely my inspiration to continue to keep playing, he started when he was younger and it’s just a bond we have together and something that we can share together.”

Kylie would like to share a small quote to her teamamates:

“Ohana means family, and family means no one gets left behind”
