The fifth annual Health Science SkillsUSA Chapter Health Fair is tomorrow, Jan. 22 in the cafeteria. The Health Fair will last from 5:30-8 p.m.
“While the Health Fair requires a great deal of planning and effort, it is always worth it,” Health Science SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor Cheyenne Kirkpatrick said. “Each year, students reflect on what worked well and how the event can be improved, and I enjoy seeing their ideas take shape. The event builds communication skills, confidence, networking and meaningful relationships, making it an incredible experience for both our students and the Kilgore community.”
The Health Fair will feature booths showcasing health related topics such as CPR, choking, AED, dehydration, heat illness, skin care, sunscreen, mental health, stress management, sugar in beverages, stop bleeding/ tourniquet, blood pressure, emergency phone ID, hand washing and glove removal.
“My favorite thing about the Health Fair is seeing many members of the community who have no ties to the school come and enjoy the different booths, and learn something helpful for the rest of their lives,” junior and Health Science SkillsUSA Chapter Treasurer Angel Martinez said. “Coach K. (Kirkpatrick), the other officers and I have been planning the event since last year after the last one, and we have been going to different businesses and organizations in the community and the school and invite them to participate at the Health Fair, and to enjoy the event.”
There are several student clubs that will feature booths at the Health Fair: KBAD, Book Club, StuCo, Spirit Depot, FFA, SAVE Promise Club and Choir. These clubs will display what their club does and their CTE skills.
“I look forward to seeing more of our school clubs and organizations getting involved and helping be a part of this community event,” junior and Health Science SkillsUSA Chapter Junior Class Representative Rya Whatley said. “My favorite thing about the Health Fair is the ability to learn and help others learn skills that could potentially save a life.”
There are also several community organizations that will host booths: Lions Club, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, Wellness Pointe, Because I Care, Texas Department State Health Services, J. DeGraffenreid Dentistry, Her Haus Massage & Head Spa, Christian Homes & Family Services, Carter BloodCare, Unlimited Drug Testing LLC and Next Step Counseling.
“This year, I look forward to seeing who all comes and talks to the new booths we have this year,” senior and Health Science SkillsUSA Chapter Vice President Autumn McDaniel said. “My favorite thing about the health fair is all of the booths that teach people about health care and educate them on how to take care of themselves.”
The Health Fair is ran by the officers of the Health Science SkillsUSA Chapter.
“I run the welcome committee and make sure the fair runs smoothly,” junior and Health Science SkillsUSA Chapter President Grace Friesen said. “I look forward to seeing new and returning faces!”
