The blowing of the referee’s whistle begins the first scrimmage of the ‘24-’25 football season. The August heat hits hard during the afternoon, but the players are determined to not let the heat get to them.
The Bulldogs have had a busy start to the football season with two preseason scrimmages, home against Mesquite Poteet on August 15, and at Center on August 22.
“The best highlight from the scrimmages was the block field goal where Dre (Sanders) picked it up and tossed it to Cam (Christian), then Cam tossed it back to (Ja’Marian) Duncan-Morgan for a touchdown,” Coach and Principles of Law & Public Safety teacher Kaleb Brisendine said. “Crazy play, but I would recommend doing that again.”
Their first game is tomorrow, August 30, at Carthage. JV and Freshman play at home today, August 26. The Carthage Bulldogs, who just so happened to also be represented by the colors red & white, are tough competitors, winning nine championships since 2008. But the true Bulldogs are dead set on showing who’s the boss around East Texas.
“We’ve been rivals for 20 plus years,” senior Wylie Mitchell said. “We haven’t beat them since 2016, and the fans motivate us.”
Their next game is against Whitehouse at home on September 6. JV and Freshman play September 5 at Whitehouse. Make plans to attend and make sure you’re in High School Musical attire, as that is the DogPound theme!
