The boys basketball team is running deeper into their basketball schedule. They had a rough start at the beginning of the season but have managed to make that change and have been clearing their basketball schedule much better. They won their game against Spring Hill 46-27, and they have a home game against Cumberland Academy on Friday, Jan. 31.
“I feel great when I step on the court because I’m always ready to play basketball,” freshman Maverix Rivers said. “Before the game I get nervous, but when we are about to play, I have to get the nerves out of my system and play my game. I play point guard. For point guard, my job is to set up plays, talk to my teammates on the court, go get points, know what i’m supposed to do, and have vision on the court.”
For freshmen, this is their first season in high school, so they’re eager to make a good first impression.
“My goal for this basketball season is to have a winning record, help my teammates out while talking on the court, and have good stats for the season,” Rivers said. “My biggest challenge for this upcoming game is to calm down on the court, slow down, and to now freak out while playing.”
For their game against Spring Hill, they’re wishing for an up in a series of downs.
“I feel pretty good because I feel like we’re gonna get the hope that we need and we can finally get a win because we’ve been on the losing streak lately,” freshman Jeff Easley said. “My goal is for us to all win and get better as a person and the team.”
