Since the end of September, our Boomtown Players have been perfecting their spooky costumes, sets and scenes for their upcoming production of The Haunted House Disaster, a recently released comedy script about a theater department attempting to raise money with a very poorly planned haunted house.
“I’m looking forward to having the full show on stage and going smoothly,” sophomore Caitlin Sunday said. “Right now it’s very choppy, but I’m sure once everyone knows their lines and cues, it’ll go much smoother.
A unique part of performing this script is that the actors, in a way, get to play two different characters. They play the high school students who are working in the haunted house, and then they also play whatever characters those actors are trying to portray.
“I was given the role of a grandmother, but I put my own twist on it by acting like a rich old cat lady,” sophomore Olivia Norris said. “I think I’m well qualified for it given that I got the freedom of choosing how I portray her, and I adore the character style, which makes it easier for me to act as her.”
Not only is the acting in this play unique compared to others, but the set design and technological aspects of it are also interesting. To put it in a way that doesn’t spoil the show too much, there are a few technical difficulties that take place in the show, and the timing has to be just about perfect for them to work.
“I am an actor, playing the Techie in the show.” senior Thaiona Moore said. “My favorite part of rehearsals so far is being able to be on my own and setting up all the backstage equipment. I like having the time to focus on my parts and making sure that I make the scares amazing.”
Overall, whether you’re there to watch people get scared, or you’re there to have a good laugh, you aren’t going to want to miss this frighteningly funny show! Come see the Boomtown Players perform this show for the first time on Tuesday, November 12!
“It’s really funny, and all the actors are doing an amazing job,” Sunday said. “I’m very excited to perform in this show!”
