Journalism students taking notes during a lecture.

A group of students signed up to go to a journalism workshop in Lindale on Nov. 8.

There was an advanced and beginner class, splitting the students into two groups. They reviewed how to write leads, hooks, and different intros for each writing style, news, feature, and editorial, as well as conclusions for each. Headlines and copy editing were also covered for the students, as they pertain to writing for newspapers as well as UIL competitions.

The Journalism UIL team covers all of these writings in competition. The team always manages to place near the top with the help of their advisor Amy Bates. Going to workshops to refresh and prime their knowledge of writing styles gives them extra help when going to said competitions.
