The holiday season is gonna be here before you know it, and with it comes the excitement of Christmas traditions. Whether it’s decorating the tree, putting up stockings, getting to spend time with the people you love or even just enjoying a festive meal, Christmas traditions bring families and friends together to celebrate the season. But what do these traditions look like for students at KHS? For many, religious beliefs shape the way they celebrate Christmas but for some Christmas is about spending time with family and friends.
“My religious beliefs don’t change the way I celebrate the holidays because holidays are about spending time with your loved ones(family and friends).” Senior Julissa Fermin said.
Others embrace a blend of traditions.
“My family is not religious but despite this, our Christmases are based on enjoying time together as a family,” junior Adrian Damien said. “We enjoy having dinner together, exchanging gifts, and decorating our house. I love how we manage to have quality time together. I think there’s nothing more important than spending time with the people you love.”
While some enjoy the religious aspect of the holidays, others agree that the memories and traditions are the best part.
“I love Opening Presents and spending time with family.” freshman Ethan Reyes said.
Not only do traditions make us feel unique because of the memories they create, but they also bring people together, which in some peoples’ opinions, is so much more important than the presents themselves.
“I love how we manage to have quality time together.,” sophomore Grace Friesen said. “ I think there’s nothing more important than spending time with the people you love.”
No holiday season is complete without FOOD!
“ It’s hard to choose just one food, but I think roast beef is the way to go,” Junior Muchan Kim said.
What’s better than just having food? A MOVIE to go with it!
Whether it’s a scary movie or an action-packed movie, they all get you in the Christmas spirit. “ My favorite Christmas movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas,” Fermin said.
Or it could be a Holiday favorite that keeps you in a jolly good spirit.
“My favorite Christmas movie is Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer,” Friesen said.
Whether through faith, family traditions, or a love of festive food and films, Christmas is a time of connection for students at KHS. No matter how or where we celebrate, the holiday spirit shines brightly in the shared joy that makes the season unforgettable.
