After Cross country Regionals, runner Senior Ruby Almanza qualified for the 4A State Meet on Nov. 2 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock. She will have to face very strong competition from all over the state. She placed 23rd out of 152 runners with a time of 12:05.8.

“My goal for the upcoming State Meet is to get at least top 20” Almanza said. ”Staying in pace, and not burning out is going to be my biggest challenge. Making State feels very exciting, but also it makes me nervous. I’m confident enough to do good. A piece of advice for future runners is don’t give up it’s all mental”

The Boys’ Cross Country team also ran Regionals, and had to meet tons of tough competition at the regionals meet as well.

“I got a time of 18.03 which was a personal record for me” senior Gustavo Trejo said “My goal for the meet was to at least get 3rd on the team and in that general area. A challenge was adjusting to having to be in a leadership position and trying to push myself to become faster. It felt pretty good making regionals because it was a sort of satisfaction and all of that hard work paid off. At first I kept looking back at the past and I was like I know I can do better this year so when I was on the running line the nervous just went away and when i started running i felt like i could do it. Advice for future runners is to stay consistent and make sure you run everyday, and to just keep pushing yourself” Trejo said.

“I got a time of 18:30” senior Jacob Herrera said “My goal going into the Regionals meet was to make it to state unfortunately it didn’t happen. My biggest challenge was having to run with good runners as well as having to compete with upper classman. It felt good to be able to go to regionals my freshman year of high school. I feel like i did pretty good and i was very confident aswell. Well some advice for runners is not to start fast at the beginning of a race and to start sprinting towards the end” Herrera said.
