The Kilgore Independent School District Education foundation is hosted its fourth annual Running with the dogs 5k Saturday November 2. Money raised for the race went towards the foundation. There mission was to enhance the educational experience of students by providing financial support for district-wide programs and activities. The race took place at the Dudley road entrance at the creekside trail. The race began and ended at the Dudley entrance. Along with the 5k, there was a 1k for children in third to fifth grade. The children’s course was only one kilometer so parents could watch their kids run the whole race.
Participants who get first through third in their respected races, Male, Female, and kids racer winners won prizes. Although It has dogs in the name, the foundation and the rules of the race are pretty adamant about having no pets participate in the race. NO DOGS. Along with all the in person racers, sleep in Supporters. The foundation had the option to pay for a ticket to merilly donate, so next yar if you wanna help but you don’t want to participate in the race, help out while still being in your pajamas.
Anchor club was at the race helping out and volunteering. Members were placed along the path and encouraged racers as they run past. Other members were holding signs to help direct runners.
“We love that we are able to participate and encourage the Education Foundation in their fundraising efforts for the benefit of our students at KISD,” Anchor club advisor Emily Bailey said. “This group of community members have invested into our students in so many ways, we are grateful that we are able to show them how much we appreciate them. Students were enthusiastic with their participation and that we conveyed to the Education Foundation exactly how thankful we are for all that they do for us as a School District.”
