It’s the beginning of the year and the time to sign up for clubs couldn’t be better. But with all the clubs hosting meetings right when the doors open at 7:15, it leaves students who have late buses and rides no time to sign up. This is even more apparent with school being earlier than the previous years, waking up even earlier for some would seem like torture. However, if you are looking for a club that’s both fun and has plenty of time to join, art teacher Holly Harper has the thing for you.Preview (opens in a new tab)
Art club is an interactive group, and the deadline to sign up isn’t till this December, leaving plenty of time for any interested. The only requirement of joining is being in an art class.
“Students should join art club because they can get involved in the community, exhibit or display their artwork at the campus or around Kilgore,” Harper said. “Last year we went to helping hands and we helped prepare cans and boxes, it was really fun.”
As a member, you will be able to sign up for charities like helping hands, a local can food drive in down town Kilgore, and raise money by selling candy, for valentines day. Art club also helped paint faces for the special needs around Kilgore at SAFFE Day last year. If you aren’t too keen on charity work, art club also takes a field trip every year, but must participate in one of their fundraisers. Art club officers have already been assigned are as follows, Senior Shaun Casayuran as president, senior Leslie smith as vice president, senior Kyra Trevino as secretary, Senior Juan Cardozo as treasurer, senior Ginger Allen as head face painter and senior Daphne Crum as are clubs duchess. Dues are ten dollars and shirts are fifteen dollars. If you joined art club last year or have in the past, you could qualify for a Letterman jacket if you haven’t gotten one already. If interested, don’t be afraid to stop by the fine arts hall and visit Mrs. Harper.
