On Friday March 29 the First Presbyterian Church hosted the Tenebrae good Friday service. In this performance students learn parts and have many practices. “Tenebrae is Latin for “Darkness” and we call it a Service of Shadows. Our tenebrae service is in a darkened sanctuary with candles lit at the front of the church. A series of Scripture readings share information about Jesus’s final week, ending with his burial. After each reading and hymn a candle is snuffed out. This is an important part of Easter that some people skip over. I am so blessed that my church has always had this service. It makes the Joy of Easter morning so much more meaningful,” church member Amy Bates said. This service is a very special and important time to the members of the church and has been for a long time. This performance is very impactful to everyone,”It gave a hint in how that day went it did impact me to show that even though I didn’t go through that pain the words empathized how painful it was to go through that,” Sophomore Andrew Wood said. This performance is not a speaking performance the only words that are said are the words from the narrator and the soloist.
