The Kilgore High School Cheerleaders left for UIL on January 12, 2023. They competed on January 13, 2023. The cheerleaders worked on their competition material for many months, including during the breaks and they also had Sunday practices.

The cheerleaders competed and made through all rounds of the finals making the top twenty in 4A D1 cheer teams from the competition. They have gotten fourth place two years in a row and were really working hard to get a medal this year. They unfortunately did not get that medal, but they did get fifteenth place out of fifty one schools.

Even though the outcome was not what they hoped for, they were still very proud of themselves because the performance that they performed was the best that they could do and they left everything on the mat and it was in the hands of the judges.

Next year the KHS cheerleaders are coming back to make a name for themselves. You win some and you lose some you cannot win them all but you sure can try.

“Next year will be my senior year and it would be amazing to go out with a bang for my last year being a KHS cheerleader. I am ready to put in the work and practice to medal next year at the UIL state competition,” said junior Kaleigh Newlen.

The cheerleaders were lucky to have two full fan busses of KHS student there to support them.

“Having the support from the school was just an amazing feeling, the feeling was something like you can’t explain it was just wonderful almost brought some of us to tears,” Freshman Ava Grace Henry said.
