Melanie Sosa is the January Student of the Month. Melanie is in the science club, La Bamba, NHS, and in KHS Web Design. She also includes herself in UIL accounting, computer applications, and Model UN.

As busy as Melanie is, she always tries her best at her grades. She is an all-A student and is in the top ten percent of her class. She is also the first in her family to speak English, go to school, and soon attend college. High school is most definitely a challenge.

“The biggest challenge in high school is the imposter syndrome, I constantly feel like I don’t belong,” Melanie stated.

Melanie has had the pleasure of helping her community by doing community service at the Longview Arboretum, also she and a group of friends went to help the Groundskeepers.

“We dug holes, potted plants, and made a huge cement sculpture,” Melanie explained.

High school experiences are always going to be remembered, not only because of the events, people, and activities. However, the teachers that made our high school experiences important and memorable are also always going to be remembered.

“Sherry Lockman has had the biggest impact on my life. I have had her for four years and seven class periods, they have been a blast. She is really supportive in everything I do, and has always given me advice in times of need,” Melanie expressed.

The goal to graduate, make good grades, and get a scholarship to get into a good college, is something that every senior has in mind.

“ I plan to attend Texas A&M next year. I can’t wait to be an Aggie. All around me, I have had the privilege of having amazing Aggies guide me throughout high school. I plan to follow in their footsteps,” Melanie said excitedly.

Along with college, comes a major. Majoring in a career is a huge accomplishment.

“I am majoring in Business Administration. I never expected becoming a “business” person, but after opening up to new experiences, it is something I find myself to really enjoy,” Melanie said.

Of course, comes the future after college. Growing up is always an expectation that is never what we thought it would be.

“In ten years, I hope to have a job I enjoy. I want job security, to be financially stable, and to be a business analyst,” Melanie explained.

The person you are outside of school is also important. It shows your emotional and fun side.

“In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies and listening to music,” Melanie said.

There comes the end of the school year, which every senior is somewhat sad to experience. However, along with the end comes an accomplishment.

“I think my biggest accomplishment is yet to happen. Honestly, the only thing I would consider as an achievement is being the first in my family to graduate high school,” Melanie elevated.

Memories from high school will be a part of you for the rest of your life, maybe not all, but some.

“I feel like everyone else here is going to forget about the material we learned, and the strangers we saw in the hallways. However, I am going to remember the close bonds I made with people I love, the random car drives at midnight, horrendous acting when we play charades, and the laughs I shared with my friends,” Melanie recollected.

With all that being said, hard work and dedication takes you places in life that only some of the world cared to understand. It’s never too late though, to show yourself you are great and can accomplish anything as Melanie Sosa proved.

“Romans 8:18- For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us, is the quote I live by,” Melanie concluded.
