Orchestra Earns Sweepstakes
The KHS Orchestra traveled to Tyler to compete in the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest, having a varsity and junior varsity group. The contest consists of two parts, a concert where they play an arrangement of three pieces, and the second part they will sight read and play a piece in a given amount of time. Both orchestras are under the direction of Sherry Paetznick.
The Chamber Orchestra, or varsity, played a selection of Russian Sailors’ Dance, Finnish Folk Song Suite, and Entrance and March of the Guests from Tannhauser for the concert portion of the contest. For the concert portion, they earned a 1,2,1, and in the sight reading they earned a 1,1,1. Overall, the Chamber Orchestra received a Sweepstakes trophy for having Superior ratings in both concert and sight reading.
Students in the Chamber Orchestra include Jaime Baldazo, Kayleigh Beets, Shanna Casayuran, Britney Castillo, Grayson Cavel, Cason Cox, Kenneth Exline, Christopher Galindo-Salazar, Bryan Godinez, Guadalupe Gonzalez, Gavin Haynes, Adrian Herrera, Axel Lira, Mazy Martinez, Rylee Moore, Juan Mora, Tara Parson, Cristina Rosas, William Shupak, Analyse Thomas, Andrea Torres, Grace Vasquez, and Zachary Witt.
The junior varsity group, or the Philharmonic Orchestra, earned a 2,1,2 for the concert where they played an arrangement of Barocca, Dragon Fire, and Conquistador. In the sight reading portion of the contest, they earned a 1,1,1 . Overall, the Philharmonic Orchestra earned a 2 in concert and a 1 in sight reading, earning a plaque.
