Varsity and JV band make first division ratings at UIL contest
Despite losing the 2020 spring band season and not being able to attend 2021 marching band contest, the Varsity and JV bands were able to return home from contest with first division ratings.
On March 29, the Symphonic, JV, band attended contest at Gilmer High School. They performed 3 pieces and a sight-reading piece. They were conducted by assistant band director Yvonne Garcia. The band make a 2nd, excellent, division rating on stage and made a 1st, superior, division rating in the sight-reading room.
On March 30, the Wind Ensemble, Varsity, band attended contest at Gilmer High School. At competition the band played “His Honor March” by Henry Fillmore, “Rippling Watercolors” by Brian Balmages, and “La Madre De Los Gatos” by Brian Beck and read a sight-reading piece. They were conducted by head band director Clifton Walker. The band made a 1st, superior, division rating on stage and made a 1st, superior, division rating in the sight-reading room. With earning first divisions in both contests, the varsity band was able to earn a Sweepstakes title.
