Senior Skyler Day and her grandmother Diana McGlasson share a moment on Senior Night for the volleyball team.

Why athletes need support from family

Athletes spend hours every day practicing in order to get better at whatever sport they do, whether it be track, basketball, tennis, football, etc. This inclination to do better comes from two places. First, the drive to show progression to satisfy internal needs. Athletes want to beat their personal records, run faster, score more points and overall see growth within themselves. Second, athletes want to impress people. All humans want to show off to their friends and parents; however, athletes have a special part of their life that they can let their parents see in the form of games and matches. With their family support behind them, it allows the athletes to do better knowing they have someone to support them.

I can’t imagine not having my support system behind me when I’m doing what I love to do best.

— Skyler Day

“I personally do better with my family being there because they’re there to watch me perform at my best. I know that I have their support no matter what,” senior volleyball player Skyler Day said. “I can’t imagine not having my support system behind me when I’m doing what I love to do best.”
