On Thursday, October 18 the tennis teams faced a tough battle between Wills Point High school who is ranked 10th in the state. The playoff match ended with Kilgore roughly losing with seven points and Wills Point winning with 12 points.

After the match, Coach Jason Maroney gave the tennis teams a pep talk about what they could have done better and what they can improve on.

“I feel like we have a lot of improving to do and Wills Point was the better team,” Maroney said. “I was happy with how the kids fought, though. The effort was there.”

Since the match, the tennis team has been conditioning in order to become quick on the court and stronger with their hitting.

“I think that our boys team needs to get better at the net,” Maroney said. “While our girls need to improve technique and work on getting faster and more explosive.”

Even though they lost their match, Coach Maroney thinks the team is dedicated and self-motivated. They have worked all summer to get better with the team. The team is being more focused with making sure they are prepared for the spring and are hoping to come with many victories.

“During the season, we try to do a lot of match play or situational tennis,” Maroney said. “We try to implement drills that would mimic what they would do in a match.”
