Band, Orchestra compete at Solo, Ensemble competition
Both the band and orchestra took part in their solo and ensemble competitions this semester. The band competed February 2nd and the orchestra had their competition on Feb. 24th.
Out of the many musicians that competed at the band solo and ensemble, many received superior ratings.
“I was surprised that I received a first division rating,” sophomore Hannah Howell said.”But I was happy at the same time.”
While a lot of musicians earned a first division rating, only senior Cruz Daniel advanced to the state band solo and ensemble competition. To make is more meaningful, this makes it his fourth year in a row to qualify.
“There was a sense of accomplishment every time I qualified for state,” Cruz Daniel said. “Although I was nervous at this year’s audition because it was my last time.”
The orchestra also had a lot of success at their solo and ensemble competition. Many will be advancing to the State competition.
“I am proud to be able to go to state,” senior Juan Lira said. “I worked hard for weeks, and it has payed off.”
For many of the seniors, it was their very last solo and ensemble competition.
“It is very bittersweet,” senior Kieran Rider said. “I’ve made so many friends these past four years going to different schools to compete, and I’m gonna have to say goodbye.”
