Golf participates in first tournament of the season
Last Monday, October 16th, the golf team traveled to the Woodhollow Golf Course in Longview. There was a total of 5 golfers representing Kilgore and 60 golfers in all.
“I believe that the team is feeling excited about the year,” golf coach Karl Kilgore said. “We’re improving every day. Now we just have to take what we have learned on the driving range over to the golf course.”
The team played well against the other, more experienced players. The Kilgore golfers beat out three other teams.
“Our scores were good since it was our first tournament,” Kilgore said. “I feel as though our scores will improve every time we play since we have some inexperienced golfers that are just now really learning to play the game.”
Seniors Jax Brantley and Trace Buyher both made holes-in-one while at the tournament.
“It was awesome just watching it slowly trickle into the hole knowing there is a chance of making it, and it actually happens,” Brantley said.
According to Buyher, the competition wasn’t too difficult.
“It was all intentional, all skill,” Buyher said. “Enough said.”
The majority of the tournaments will occur after Christmas towards the end of February.
“We felt pretty good,” Brantley said. “We just know there is room to improve to become one of the best teams in the nation.”
