Cross Country starts season strong with LeTourneau meet

The varsity cross country boys and girls had a meet for the Backwoods Gallop at LeTourneau University on Sept. 2. The Bulldogs placed 2nd. 

Senior Joshua Fletcher came in third place with a time of 18:56.83.

“I am trying to help take our team to state,” Fletcher said.

Junior Gregorio Alvarez and senior Jose Canchola were that far behind Fletcher with a

time of 19:25.02 and 20:07.69, respectively.

“I am trying to be better than I was last year,” Alvarez said.

Freshman Emma Taylor came in second place in her meet with a time of 13:34.75.

“I am trying to qualify for state as a team, even if we don’t get there we will push to get as far as we can,” Taylor said.

Freshman Jackie Estrella came in fifth and junior Carmen Velasco came in tenth with the times of 13:58.84 and 14:30.23, respectively.

“My goal for the next race is to get a time of 12:30,” Velasco said.

They had meet on Sept. 15 at Hallsville, where the boys placed first and the girls placed second.
