On Oct. 14, AutoCad Drafting teacher Mike Northcutt was honored the Educator of the Year by Kilgore Chamber of Commerce. This will be his 50th year working as a teacher.
“I taught Joey Pippen, Coach Rose, Kristen Pieper and Juan Perales,” Northcutt said.
His favorite part of coming to work is the teachers and students.
“They brightened up my day,” Northcutt said.
His past jobs have been a carpenter at KHS during the summer and Driver Ed teacher at Kilgore.
One of his best parts of working, is all the fantastic people he gets to meet and work with.
“I start my day with a cup of coffee, and visiting Mr. Smith and Mr. Presley,” Northcutt said.
He chose to teach because of his high school teacher made him want to become one.
“I was good at drafting and shop classes and Leon Winton inspired me,” Northcutt said.
As he won his award he felt very humbled by receiving it, He would like to say a huge thank you to everyone.
“I want to thank my wife and daughter that accompanied me that night,” Northcutt said.
A quote Northcutt lives by it, “Work hard for what you want because it won’t come to you without a fight.”
