On October 26, the Kilgore High School Health Science Club will be hosting the Marathon Challenge Kickoff at the R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium track from 12-3. This is the second year of the Marathon Challenge, but this year the club has expanded to having a kickoff and starting earlier in the year.

Local schools, such as West Rusk and Sabine, have been invited to join in on the challenge to get fit. There will be guest speakers sharing their experiences of getting fit in similar marathon challenge events. Participants will also be able to meet and interact with athletes from local high schools, colleges, and universities. Athletes will be there to help encourage the participants as they run around the track and run with them.

This event will give people the opportunity to track their first laps in their logbooks. Logbooks will be passed out at the kickoff for everyone to start logging their laps and begin their journey of becoming fit.

The kickoff is a free event and all ages are welcome and encouraged to come and participate. Smaller events will be announced at the kickoff, and participants can continue to log laps to help complete their logbooks. If someone completes at least one logbook, they will earn a free entry into the 5K Color Dash on March 28, 2020, through downtown Kilgore.
