On April 24-26, junior Mackenzie Cavanaugh traveled to Van Zandt Country Club in Canton to compete in the UIL Regional Golf Tournament. On April 24, there was a practice round for the girls to get to know the course.

On April 25, the first day of the tournament, Cavanaugh started off strong with a long drive in a par 4. Throughout the day, Cavanaugh continued on with determination and dedication. She finished with a score of a 106.

“I felt pretty good about my score the first day, and I knew I can do better on the second day,” Cavanaugh said.

The second day of the tournament was a great day for Cavanaugh. She had long drives, shots and was consistent on her putting and chipping.

“On the second, I was happy with the shots I was hitting,” Cavanaugh said. “They were going far and straight.”

She finished the second day with a score of a 106; therefore, her total score was 212.

It was a tough competition, but Cavanaugh had a strong approach going into the tournament. Having only played golf for the past few months, she showed her competitive side.

“I’m excited with what is next to come into the future,” Cavanaugh said. “I know I’m only going to improve from here on out, so I’m thrilled to see what I can accomplish next year in golf.”
