Band seniors pose with their first division trophy.

The varsity and JV ensemble bands travelled to Mt. Pleasant to compete at the annual UIL concert and sight reading competition on April 18.

The JV band received an first division rating for their concert pieces, and a second division rating for the sight reading portion.

“I was really proud that we received good ratings,” freshman Juan Vega said. “It was even more satisfactory since I am freshman.”

The varsity band took home first division ratings for both concert and sight reading. As a result, the band can now proudly say that they had a sweepstakes year: first division in marching band season, as well as concert season.

“We worked hard endlessly this entire year,” senior Cruz Daniel said. “I’ve made lots of great memories these past few years, I can’t wait to see what else the KHS band will achieve in the following years.”

The band will have their spring concert on May 14 at the KHS gym, where they will feature their UIL concert pieces.
