Freshman chase Borders poses with his award.

This freshman cowboy, Chase Borders, tussled himself a calf at the Houston calf scramble. He had prepared for this day because catching a cow and putting it into a designated location is not a brush on the shoulder. “I had to do a lot of running and endurance drills.

My uncle made me learn how to recognize what a calf is going to do next,” Borders said.

This is not Chase’s first rodeo- he grew up showing rabbits and chickens and this was his opportunity to finally show what he has wanted to show off.

What strives Chase to be in FFA is that it is the largest lead organization in America.

“I like knowing that I’m in something big and that can make change,” Borders said.
